I made another Seamwork Akita blouse!

My first Akita top has been getting lots of wear, especially now that the weather has turned warm, so I knew it was time for another. This time I used a synthetic (polyester I think) that has a lot of drape. I liked the abstract print on this fabric and the color (have you noticed how many blue things I’ve made? lots!). This fabric has been in my stash for a while and I thought this would be a good way to make a dent … but apparently I bought a ton of this fabric because I only used about 1/4 of what I had! I have no idea what I had in mind when I bought it, but I’ll have to think of something else to use it for 🙂 It could make a nice lining for a skirt or jacket, or a kimono-style robe…

Anyone remember me alluding to a springtime Renfrew tee when I sewed up my winter one? Well, here it is!

After making a muslin with an old jersey sheet and getting the fit just right, I figured, hey, why make a regular old t-shirt when I could hack the pattern and make something different? It’s March…and hey I’m posting my first ‘Winter Sewing‘ project!

I made a Sewaholic Renfrew top with a cowl neck, the first winter project on my list.

I’ve been eyeing this pattern for a while. I have made myself a few tees in the past by tracing a favorite dolman-style ready-to-wear tee. But I decided that I should really have a ‘real’ pattern with a more traditional tee shape. Enter Renfrew! I was particularly drawn to the cowl neck version which I thought would be nice and cozy for winter – umm…nevermind that it’s no longer really winter:). Fall Sewing #6:Hollyburn Skirt

I am finally getting around to posting  the very last in my series of Fall Sewing posts – a Hollyburn skirt that I finished just before the official end of Fall and beginning of Winter. After my hopes of making a Colette Beignet skirt in blue corduroy fell through, I decided to make this Hollyburn instead.

Ok, I must admit that this pattern is way easier than the Beignet pattern …quick rundown: Beignet is fully lined, fitted, and has 12 buttons down the front; Hollyburn is unlined, fitted only at the waist, and no buttons (but one zipper). I made the view B length (medium length), with the button tabs. It’s a straightforward pattern with nice simple, clear instructions. And that’s why I managed to finish it so quickly.

But hey, I’m not too proud to enjoy an easy make! I really like this skirt. It has a great shape, and I like the amount of fullness. And I love this fabric! Continue reading “Fall Sewing #6:Hollyburn Skirt” →

Failure #1: My sad Sorbetto

I made this a while ago, but was so disappointed that I just hid it in a corner of my closet for a while, but now I’m ready to share.

Fall Sewing #4: A Floating Josephine

I made yet another Josephine blouse…and I think this might be my favorite one yet. This is the release-tuck version that I’ve been dreaming about forever, and I’m so glad I finally made it.

I originally worried that the grey cotton lawn I chose would be too boring, but I think it was really the perfect choice. This top looks great in a solid color and will go with everything! I finished these last weekend and just got some pictures of my most recent Fall Sewing project. I made version 2 (the one with the cuffs).These were a pretty quick and easy sew. Fall Sewing #2: Akita Blouse

I recently finished the second project on my Fall Sewing list – the Seamwork Akita blouse!

I love this top! It is so simple, yet stylish at the same time. It’s a simple rectangular shaped top (though it does have bust darts), but the sleeves are like little wings that add some fun and visual interest to the top!

The pattern is all one piece – meaning there are no seams at the shoulders. It’s just folded over the shoulders, with a hole for your head:)

Fall Sewing #1: Minoru Jacket

Woohoo!! I made a Minoru jacket, just in time for the beginning of Fall. Umm…actually, I made it just in time for a massive heat wave that hit San Francisco. Temperatures were in the 90’s in SF for nearly 6 days! When it gets that hot here (which is rare), the whole city goes a little bit crazy – there’s a wild giddiness in the air, especially at night. Nobody has air conditioning, so we all moan and complain, and crowd the beaches like we’re in LA or something:) Luckily, the fog poured back in for a few days, leaving us all shivering and happy. And I got to wear my new jacket!

This is the first project on my list for Fall Sewing. It feels like I’ve been working on this forever (2 months), and dreaming about it for even longer. I love the casual and sporty, yet feminine, look of the Minoru and have seen so many cool and inspiring versions of this online. Like this one. And this one (I love red jackets!). I was a bit nervous that this project would be over my head, but I just went for it. My mom’s advice was to “go slow, don’t give yourself a deadline, and you’ll be fine.” Advice taken.
