Hey Readers! Spring feels like it’s finally here, and what better way to celebrate than by sewing a bright yellow Roscoe blouse?

This fabric-pattern combo feels like a match made in heaven! The fabric is a lovely rayon challis that I picked up from Stonemountain. I’m not always a big fan of florals, but I do have a soft spot for more abstract, large-scale print type of florals and this one certainly fits the bill! This blouse puts a nice pop of cheerful color into my me-made wardrobe that has otherwise been tending toward navy blue, grey, and black lately. And it goes with my Lander jeans too…

Akita #2

I made another Seamwork Akita blouse!

My first Akita top has been getting lots of wear, especially now that the weather has turned warm, so I knew it was time for another. This time I used a synthetic (polyester I think) that has a lot of drape. I liked the abstract print on this fabric and the color (have you noticed how many blue things I’ve made? lots!). This fabric has been in my stash for a while and I thought this would be a good way to make a dent … but apparently I bought a ton of this fabric because I only used about 1/4 of what I had! I have no idea what I had in mind when I bought it, but I’ll have to think of something else to use it for 🙂 It could make a nice lining for a skirt or jacket, or a kimono-style robe…

I made yet another Josephine blouse…and I think this might be my favorite one yet. This is the release-tuck version that I’ve been dreaming about forever, and I’m so glad I finally made it.

I originally worried that the grey cotton lawn I chose would be too boring, but I think it was really the perfect choice. This top looks great in a solid color and will go with everything! Fall Sewing #2: Akita Blouse

I recently finished the second project on my Fall Sewing list – the Seamwork Akita blouse!

I love this top! It is so simple, yet stylish at the same time. It’s a simple rectangular shaped top (though it does have bust darts), but the sleeves are like little wings that add some fun and visual interest to the top!

The pattern is all one piece – meaning there are no seams at the shoulders. It’s just folded over the shoulders, with a hole for your head:)

I’ve been inspired by the Colette Wardrobe Architect series and Sewaholic’s Summer and Fall sewing plans to do a bit of planning for Fall. I always have ideas of what I want to sew floating about in my head, but it was nice to sit down and plan out a whole ‘season’ of sewing. And to put it on my wall to keep me focused. Plus, I recently went on a fabric shopping spree, so I knew I had to buckle down and make some concrete plans!!

Sewing for me!! Two Josephines

I finally did some (blog-worthy) sewing of clothes for myself! I made Rae’s Josephine blouse and tunic. Actually, I made the first one quite a while back when I took a sewing class at Stonemountain in Berkeley, but had trouble with the taking-photos-of-myself part of blogging. So I am just getting around to posting it now. My first one was a ‘view b’ blouse made with a lightweight cotton print (lawn I think). It’s soft and comfortable and breathable so that it’s even nice to wear in the summer (at least in San Francisco, where it’s never really hot).
